Navigating Futures with STARTALK TAMU World Languages Academy:

Empowering High School Students with Chinese Language Proficiency for Career Exploration in International Affairs, Global Economy, & STEM

Are you a high school student looking for a summer filled with discovery and growth?

Join us for an immersive learning experience where Chinese language learning meets global knowledge!

We are thrilled to offer an outstanding opportunity for youth: a federally-funded world language & career exploration program for high school students, including current 8th graders. The program, valued at $5,000 per student, is fully funded by a federal grant and thus free of charge. The program stands out among other summer programs in this area, as it is one of the few that focuses on global awareness, cultural diversity, and public service.

This program integrates Chinese language learning with interactive career exploration sessions led by experts in the global economy, international affairs, and cybersecurity. Participants will also gain insights from a former U.S. ambassador and foreign policy advisor who previously served on the National Security Council at the White House—a truly unique experience!

Who should join us?

If you’re new to Chinese and eager to explore career paths where Chinese language skills can make a big difference, this program is for you!

Join as a Program Participant: You’ll complete a year-long curriculum covering first-year Chinese and a capstone project in one of three key fields: cybersecurity, international affairs, or global economy.

For students with existing knowledge of Chinese, this program offers a unique opportunity to deepen your skills and gain valuable experience.

Join as a Program Assistant: Our program is certified by the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Students with Chinese language experience can volunteer during the summer program in multiple roles, including serving as conversation partners, assisting with lesson preparation, and supporting various instructional activities. These volunteer hours can contribute toward earning this prestigious award.

This position also offers the opportunity to develop essential leadership skills while working alongside faculty and peers. Additionally, volunteers will have the chance to engage in research projects with Texas A&M faculty, gaining insights and connections that will support their academic and career aspirations.
