The Texas A&M World Languages Academy is seeking enthusiastic teaching assistants for its Chinese Language and Career Exploration Program for high school students.
Position Overview
The teaching assistants will support a year-round youth program as follows:
Spring 2025:
10 hours (online)
Summer 2025:
80 hours (8 hours/day for 10 weekdays between June 2 and June 13, 2025) — in person on the TAMU campus
Fall 2025 to Spring 2026:
40 hours (hybrid)
Job Responsibilities
Assist Chinese language instructors and TAMU faculty in:
Instructional activities
Course preparation
Office hours
Support the Program Director with:
Coordinating cultural performances
Planning and supervising field trips
Qualifications
Required for Paid Positions
U.S. permanent residency or citizenship
(This program is funded by a U.S. federal grant that requires U.S. permanent residency or citizenship for employment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement are ineligible for payment through this grant.)
Volunteer Option
If you do not meet the residency or citizenship requirements, you may still gain valuable experience by serving as a volunteer in our program.
Required for Paid and Volunteer Positions
High school diploma
Intermediate, advanced, or superior proficiency in Chinese (native fluency not required)
Strong oral communication skills in English
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues, and families
Interest in working with youth
High level of professionalism, including meeting deadlines and honoring commitments
Preferred
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Proficiency in Google applications and other educational technology tools.
Academic background or demonstrated interest in the global economy, international affairs, or cybersecurity.
Familiarity with Chinese history, culture, or art, or experience in video editing and webpage creation.
Rate
Hourly at $11- $23, commensurate with experience
